ABOUT THE COMPANY: SyberJet Aircraft is an MSC Aerospace company and a U.S. based manufacturer of the world's fastest and longest range seven-seat light business jet the SJ30. The SJ30 has a top speed of Mach 0.83 (486 kts / 560 mph), a 2,500 nautical mile range, and maintains sea level cabin pressure up to 41,000 feet (maximum flight ceiling of 49,000 feet). SyberJet Aircraft has operations in Cedar City, Utah and in San Antonio, Texas.

JOB SUMMARY: Manage and lead the mechanical systems and aircraft performance engineering team.  Supply engineering technical and analytical expertise in the aircraft performance and/or mechanical system and powerplant integration area (flight controls, landing gear, pneumatic, environmental, oxygen, hydraulic, engine installation and fuel systems) and other systems as required to support the development, certification, sustaining design as well as production and post-delivery support of SyberJet SJ30 products. In addition, provide support to other groups such as electrical, avionics, flight test modification engineering as required to support the company's overall objectives.  Successfully integrate outsourced mechanical system components in the aircraft. Prepare certification analysis reports as well as certification test plans and test results reports, and provide oversight of those tests, as a test witness.  This position will involve overseeing the work of others, the creation of design solutions, the hands-on implementation of those solutions, as well as the effort required to obtain certification approvals for these designs.  Some travel required. 



  • The Manager/Engineer will manage the aircraft performance and mechanical system engineering group in order to achieve goals set by both the Engineering Director and company management.
  • The Manager/Engineer will be responsible for the creation of mechanical system design concepts to improve and maintain the safety, reliability, and producibility of the SJ30.
  • The Manager/Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all current and future designs meet company objectives relative to aircraft performance as well as documenting FAA certification compliance.  This may be accomplished through his own efforts, with the help of members on his team, or through the help of outside consultants, as directed by management.
  • The Manager/Engineer will be responsible for supervising supplier activity to develop, design and produce mechanical systems components meeting program schedules, budgets, and certification requirements.
  • The Manager/Engineer will provide Specification Control Drawings and Statements of Work for outsourced mechanical systems components and will work closely with potential suppliers and SJA Purchasing to provide supplier selection recommendations.
  • The Manager/Engineer will be responsible for creation, revision and review of certification test plans, and certification test reports as well as analysis reports that are required for equipment qualification and aircraft certification.  Review and approval of drawings and documentation is required.
  • The Manager/Engineer will provide onsite ground development and certification test witnessing and support for mechanical systems and their components.
  • The Manager/Engineer will attend preliminary and critical design reviews to assure supplier design requirements in the aircraft performance and mechanical systems disciplines are met.
  • The Manager/Engineer will review Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, will work with customer support and SJA repair station personnel to resolve aircraft in service issues and, when required, to provide input to or review service bulletins.

At least ten years of experience in industry demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:

  • Project management of airframe/powerplant integration programs,  system components qualification programs, and aircraft certification programs
  • Design, analysis and/or flight testing of turbine aircraft or turbine aircraft systems.  
  • Ability to read, interpret and analyze engineering sketches and drawings.
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics and technical documentation related to electronic control of mechanical systems, and to use these skills to communicate new system integration concepts.
  • Extensive working knowledge of FAA/EASA certification requirements (Part 23 Normal and Commuter Category, and Part 25).  An FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) designation is a plus.
  • Ability to create qualification test plans and associated results reports for aircraft systems and components.
  • Ability to create and review system safety analysis reports.
  • Proficient using Microsoft products i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and MS Project.
  • Familiarity with Unigraphics NX is a plus.
  • Good communication skills, written and oral.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and contractors.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work within a lean organization and willing to work in multiple discipline areas to attain the overall company objectives, and ability to manage time effectively.

EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS: This position requires a BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
